Mary S. Young State Recreation Area offers something for everyone. The open fields provide space for soccer games and a dog off-leash area. Picnic facilities throughout the park allow for large gatherings. The diverse nature of the park creates a rich natural environment that is home to songbirds, osprey, deer, and coyote. The Horse Tail trail leads through a variety of habitats, making it a botanically rich site to visit. As you walk deeper into the forest on the more than five miles of trails, it’s easy to forget you’re in a city. It’s a quick but refreshing stop if you don’t have time for a drive to the country. Viewpoints of the Willamette River offer peaceful settings for birdwatching.
