Portland’s business community has been deeply impacted by the outbreak of COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019). As of March 17, all bars, restaurants and businesses selling food and beverages are closed and are restricted to delivery and carry-out service only. Additionally, per Oregon Governor Kate Brown’s Executive Order 20-12 on March 23, social gatherings of any size are prohibited in the state if a distance of at least 6 feet between individuals cannot be maintained. (For more information and resources, visit Governor Brown’s website.)

Portland’s community (and beyond) is coming together to find ways to keep affected businesses afloat throughout the duration of this situation:

Eater PDX and Portland Mercury have compiled running list of eateries providing carry-out and delivery, and Built Oregon, PDX SOS and Float are providing online directories of links to support local businesses through crowdfunding campaigns and gift card purchases. Eater PDX has also compiled a list of restaurants selling merchandise online.

Don’t Forget to Tip!

One of the simplest ways to help out members of Portland’s service industry is to tip generously. You can even tip without purchasing anything thanks to the Help the Portland Service Industry website, which lets you send a tip through Venmo or CashApp to a randomized member of Portland’s service industry.
