Portland Bike Tours

Bike tours let you see Portland like a local, rolling through neighborhoods along this cycling-friendly city’s many bike paths, trails and lanes.

Updated Apr. 7, 2025 2 min read

Portland has more than 350 miles (563 km) of bike lanes, paths, and low-traffic streets designated as “bike boulevards,” making Portland bike tours one of the best ways to see the city. Many of these bikeways run right through the heart of downtown and past popular attractions, shops, and restaurants.

Know Before You Go

All details are subject to change, so please contact tour operators for the latest information.

Guided Portland Bike Tours

For guided tours, several local outfitters have you covered. Cycle Portland Bike Tours rides around the bridges, breweries, foodie destinations and parks of Portland.  Around Portland Tours stretch farther afield, with downtown tours, beer- and food-cart-themed jaunts, and trips that explore the nearby wine country and the Columbia River Gorge. Cycle Portland and Pedal Bike Tours also provide custom-designed tours.

Everybody’s Bike Rentals & Tours PDX offers rentals and seasonal tours. Interested visitors should reach out to the owner, Ryan, to explore custom and redesigned tour options.

Free Guided Rides

Portland By Cycle from the Portland Bureau of Transportation offers free guided bike rides on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings in July and August, as well as other rides and classes in the spring and fall. These tours are all BYOB (bring your own bike).

Local group Friends on Bikes offers regular group rides specifically for women, trans and gender non-conforming people of color.

Portland’s cycling culture peaks each summer during the months-long Pedalpalooza bike festival, featuring 100+ local-led, themed rides, all open to the public.

Rent a Bike

For a truly local experience, rent a bike and explore on your own. Necessary accessories — including a pump, a helmet, suggested routes, and a bike bag — are included. Bike maps are available online. You’ll find cyclist-submitted tours at Ride Oregon Ride, and the Portland Bureau of Transportation lists their nine best rides around Portland.

Green signs and painted road symbols designate the most popular bikeways in Portland. Mountain bikers will find an ample network of cool trails in Forest Park, a 5,157-acre (2,087 hectares) urban wilderness just 10 minutes from the city center.

You can also grab one of the many bright orange bikes available throughout the city thanks to Portland’s bike share program, Biketown. BYO helmet! (You can rent a helmet from Pedal Bike Tours or Cycle Portland Bike Tours.)

Is That a Bike?!

Party bikes, beer bikes … whatever you call them, these multi-passenger vehicles are definitely pedal-powered — and perfectly suited to tour Portland’s proliferation of brewpubs. Trolley Pub Portland offers bikes seating 6, 11 or 15 people with Pearl District and Central Eastside routes. These tours visit multiple breweries and are 21+.

Looking for a family-style group ride? Kerr Bikes, just across the Hawthorne Bridge from downtown, rents surreys that seat 4 or 6 people. They also offer specialty bicycle rentals through Adaptive Biketown.
