Springtime in Portland signals the arrival of several of Portland’s favorite events. The month of March brings St. Patrick’s Day, Spring Break for Portland Public Schools (which typically falls on the last full week of March), the annual return of the Portland Saturday Market, cherry blossoms, music events, festivals and more. Feel that spring in your step and explore this guide to our top March events below.

March Events FAQs

What’s the weather like in Portland in March?

March in Portland is mild, with an average daily low of 40 degrees Fahrenheit (4 C) and a high of 57 degrees Fahrenheit (14 C). Cloudy skies and rain showers are common, but layered clothing will ensure you stay pretty comfortable.

What is March known for nationally?

Spring Break, the productivity-draining March Madness, and the always-celebratory St. Patrick’s Day are all famously March events. March is also Women’s History Month, where we celebrate women’s contributions to history, culture and society.

Is March considered Spring?

Spring 2026 officially starts on March 20, the spring equinox, when we see equal hours of daylight and darkness.

St. Patrick’s Day

It’s no surprise that always-green Portland has plenty of St. Patrick’s Day festivities. Led by Paddy’s Irish Pub, the annual St. Patrick’s Festival includes live music, Irish dancers, corned beef and cabbage, Guinness and whiskey and plenty more. The kid-friendly St. Patrick’s Day Parade is annual fun for the whole family. Cheer on bagpipers and local organizations marching together to celebrate all things Irish.

You might also catch 18,000+ locals and visitors taking to the street for the Shamrock Run, the second-largest running and walking event on the West Coast and a Portland tradition since 1979. If running (or walking) isn’t your thing, you can join the spectators in cheering on the participants and stay for a pint and live music at the after-party.

Women’s History Month

The annual Women’s History Month Festival at Milagro, Mundo de las Mujeres, offers a mix of events, from staged readings of Las Mujeres and Laughs in Spanish to stand-up comedy and visual arts. The Portland Trail Blazers host their annual Women In Sports Celebration when they match up against the Utah Jazz on March 13.

March is also a great time to experience the Lone Fir Cemetery Women’s Tour, where you’ll learn the stories of women who transformed our city and region in myriad ways. For musical celebrations of International Women’s Day, check out Song Suffragettes PNW and a special performance by The Lorna Baxter Septet.

Biamp Portland Jazz Festival

Celebrating both the jazz genre and preserving America’s indigenous art form, the Biamp Portland Jazz Festival is a popular festival packed with more than 150 concerts, including performances by major international artists and scores of gigs showcasing local talent.

Portland Saturday Market

On any given Saturday from the beginning of March to the day before Christmas, shoppers can tap their toes to live music while sampling ethnic eats and browsing handcrafted wares from more than 250 vendors. The Portland Saturday Market combines an art show, a live street concert and an open-air bazaar. The riverside market has been a beloved Portland tradition since 1974.

Portland Dining Month

Explore Portland restaurants during Portland Dining Month. This March, the city’s top restaurants will once again offer three-course meals for a great price, making it one of the best times to experience one of the nation’s most talked-about culinary destinations — affordably.

Lunar New Year Dragon Dance Parade

Don’t miss the annual Lunar New Year Dragon Dance and Parade in Old Town Chinatown, presented by the Portland Chinatown Museum in collaboration with the Oregon Historical Society. It’s a joyous celebration that features lion dancers, drummers, crowds of cheering Portlanders — and a 150-foot (45.7 m) dragon, of course.

March Madness and More Sports

When it comes to sports, Portland’s March events calendar is packed! March Madness returns to the Moda Center this year, with early-round NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament games. The NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers host seven home games as the season builds toward the playoffs. Both the Portland Timbers and Portland Thorns soccer seasons get underway, with the Timbers playing two home games and the Thorns playing three. The Portland Winterhawks host five hockey showdowns, while the Rose City Rollers roller derby teams have a busy schedule all month long.

Portland Golf Show

Find something to help improve your swing at the Portland Golf Show, the longest-running golf show on the West Coast. Held at the Portland Expo Center, the golf show features great prices on name-brand equipment as well as swing seminars, expert interviews and tests of skill challenges where participants compete for prizes and golf getaways.

SheBrew Festival

Every year, the Oregon Brew Crew throws an epic celebration of women in the craft beer and cider industry. The SheBrew Festival includes a national homebrewers competition and tasting celebration to showcase the talents of female brewers and cider makers. Proceeds from the event are shared between the Human Rights Campaign and the Oregon Brew Crew.

Winter Music Festival

With two stages, seven bands and a large dance floor, the Winter Music Festival showcases performers from all over the United States while supporting local charities. Held in the Milwaukie-Portland Elks Lodge, this festival has evolved from blues exclusivity to an assortment of performances spanning honky-tonk, folk, rock and blues.
