Nothing says summer in Portland like a warm evening outdoors with good food and live entertainment. On several evenings throughout the summer, the Oregon Zoo hosts Zoo Nights: evenings filled with local music, food carts, activities for all ages, and the chance to get to know some of the animals active during twilight hours.
Zoo Nights occur every Friday from mid-June through mid-August, with live music on the lawn at 6:30 p.m. and activities from 5:30 p.m. Also on hand: food and snacks — plus the ever-popular elephant ears and a selection of local beer and wine for adults.
Zoo Nights is a special event and is not included with regular daytime admission. Tickets must be purchased online in advance. For more information, visit oregonzoo.org/events.
With acts that have ranged from Al Green to ZZ Top, McMenamins Edgefield Concerts on the Lawn are an annual rite of summer and the hottest ticket in town.
Every Fourth of July weekend, the Waterfront Blues Festival takes over downtown Portland’s Waterfront Park.
Every August, Pickathon draws diverse musical performers to celebrate music and the outdoors at the lush Pendarvis Farm just outside of Portland.
