The outdoor venue east of Portland hosts some of summer’s hottest shows.

Lazy summer evenings, cool beers and great music outdoors — since 2006, this idyllic combo has been the norm at McMenamins Edgefield. A bucolic 7,000-person concert venue located 15 miles (24 km) east of Portland in Troutdale, Edgefield’s Concerts on the Lawn series is an annual rite of summer.

A phenomenal roster of artists has graced the Edgefield stage over the years, ranging from Diana Ross and Stevie Wonder to Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson. Indie sensations like Wilco, Bon Iver and Phoebe Bridgers have appeared, as has the one and only “Weird Al” Yankovic (multiple times).

Maximize Your Edgefield Concert Enjoyment With These Tips

Get a room
- Edgefield’s lodging options are reasonably priced, quite unique and a great way to eliminate logistics on a concert night. Rooms book up early, however, so plan ahead!
Pack a cooler in your car
- Nothing tastes better than some fresh fruit or a cold seltzer after a concert while you’re waiting for traffic to die down. Pull up the chair you leave in the car and kick up your feet to enjoy people-watching and car-honking.
Plan for hydration
- Clear, non-glass water bottles are allowed in the venue. Plan to bring one. Alternating water with delicious McMenamins beers or cocktails is a smart way to enjoy the show and minimize next-day regrets.
Arrive early
- Edgefield is a truly unique property. Maximize your time on-site to de-stress and find your concert groove. Hop in the show venue when gates open or simply wander the grounds with a beverage or snack.
Check the current rules
- As of 2026, guests are limited to clear bags no larger than 12 x 12 x 6 inches (30 x 30 x 15 cm) and water bottles, along with a beach towel up to 30 x 60 inches (76 x 152 cm). No chairs or blankets will be allowed in. Rentals are available.

The Edgefield concert series has been so popular that McMenamins added a second outdoor concert series at its Grand Lodge venue in Forest Grove, Oregon. Past performers have included Band of Horses, Dashboard Confessional, Pink Martini and many more.

In addition to acclaimed musical acts, Edgefield also hosts thousands of overnight guests each year. They invite you to “explore the grounds with a pint in hand,” and you’d be wise to take them up on the offer — you’ll wander through charming gardens to find a spa (complete with a massive soaking pool), a brewery, a distillery, a winery, multiple pubs, a movie theater and a golf course.

The property has a unique history that’s fascinating to explore: Established as a “poor farm” in 1911, it was also a jail and a nursing home before being closed entirely in the 1980s. In 1990, it was acquired by McMenamins and became their very first hotel.

A popular destination year-round, Edgefield throws events ranging from wine tastings to weddings. Its Black Rabbit Restaurant has been ranked as one of the best farm-to-table eateries in the Pacific Northwest by Condé Nast Traveler. In other words, come for the concert but plan on staying for breakfast.
