Weave Your Own Picnic Tote Baskets

What says leisure time more than a picnic basket? But first, you’ve got to learn to weave that picnic basket. Join this Southeast Portland studio for a full day of basket weaving, led by textile artist Brittany Stanton. Students will be introduced to the tools, process and techniques of basket weaving, beginning with how to prepare the rattan reed for weaving. Brittany will demonstrate the first steps of creating a sturdy base, moving on to weaving the sides, incorporating patterns, adding a rim and attaching leather handles. While students will leave with an object of true beauty (approx. 14” wide x 5” deep x 10” tall), Brittany maintains that this class is suitable for all skill levels.
