Come to this family-friendly event and learn how to turn “trash” into treasured art. This event is the perfect time to visit the Ole Bolle troll, whether it is the first or the fifth time. Take inspiration from artist Thomas Dambo, the recycling artist and activist who created Ole Bolle. Recycling and reusing items is one of the best ways to keep the planet clean. Why throw it away when you can reuse it? At this event, you’ll reuse cardboard, wood, paint, plastic, and much more.

Birdhouse Decorating: The Ole Bole troll is part of the Way of the Bird King project by Thomas Dambo. Birdhouses were hung along with Dambo trolls all along the United States. This is your opportunity to decorate your very own birdhouse. There will be a limited supply of birdhouses, all made from recycled wood. This is an optional add-on to the event. The ticket includes a birdhouse and an extra raffle entry.

Fairy House Making: Make your own fairy house out of natural forest materials like bark, twigs, acorns, moss, leaves, and vines, and reuse materials provided by SCRAP. This activity is free; no ticket purchase is required.

Troll Cardboard Costume Creating: Create your wearable giant troll hands and feet from cardboard. Make a costume inspired by Ole Bolle or something from your own imagination. Materials are provided, but bringing your own cardboard is encouraged! This is free, no ticket purchase required.

SCRAP Creative Reuse Crafts, Mini Mall, and Donation Collection: Learn from the pros at SCRAP Creative Reuse, where they take in mountains of donated materials, sort them, organize them, and teach folks how to use them creatively. Create cork creatures, dis-Card-bowls, collages, and other cool crafts. Fill a bag from their free “Mini Mall” of discarded materials to use on your other crafts at the event, take it home and continue crafting.

Donate materials to SCRAP at the event. Check their Accepted Materials list online at https://portland.scrapcreativereuse.org/Material_Donation, and bring a bag to donate. Your trash will become someone else’s treasure.

ReClaim It Table and Trash Panda Tails: Learn about ReClaim It, where they visit the Municipal Transfer Station (aka the “dump”) and find amazing things to save and refurbish. Their motto is Reuse, Repair, Reimagine. Make your own magic wand and Trash Panda Tail like their mascot Trashleigh.
