PAM CUT presents a special  Easter Weekend screening of Michael Palmieri and Donal Mosher’s beloved documentary The Gospel of Eureka. Love, faith, and civil rights collide in a southern town as evangelical Christians and drag queens step into the spotlight to dismantle stereotypes. Guitarist and soundtrack contributor Danny Grody will perform a live, intimate set before the film screening (with special guests Michael Palmieri and Donal Mosher). Stick around after the film for a live Q&A with the filmmakers, then join a gospel disco after-party at Aalto Lounge

ON SCREEN: The Gospel of Eureka

2018. Directed by Michael Palmieri & Donal Mosher. Runtime: 75 minutes.
Taking a personal and often comical look at negotiating differences between religion and belief through performance, political action, and partnership, gospel drag shows and passion plays set the stage for one hell of a show.

Narrated by trans icon Mx Justin Vivian Bond.

ON STAGE: Michael Palmieri, Donal Mosher, and Danny Paul Grody

About the Filmmakers

Michael Palmieri and Donal Mosher are Portland-based film and multimedia artists who have worked together for over a decade on documentaries, music videos, and live performances. They were PAM CUT Artists in Residence in 2023. Their films have been exhibited at major festivals worldwide, including Sundance, Tribeca, NYFF, LAFF, True/False, Locarno, and Leipzig. Michael Palmieri and Donal Mosher are a collaborative filmmaking/multimedia team. Their first feature as directors, October Country, won the Grand Jury Prize at Silverdocs, received two Cinema Eye Honors, and was nominated for a 2009 Independent Spirit Award for Best Documentary. The film is a haunting portrait of American poverty, described by A.O. Scott as a “Joyce Carol Oates novel rendered as a documentary.” Their most recent feature film, The Gospel of Eureka, premiered at the 2018 SXSW Film Festival, was released theatrically by Kino Lorber, and broadcast on POV in 2020. Portions of their live cinema project, Spectral Transmissions, have been performed at the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam, the Look Festival at the Museum Of The Moving Image, PAMCUT, and Pop-Up Magazine. They have done stage visuals for  Daniel Lanois, Lonnie Holley and more. Palmieri’s music video director credits include work for Sharon Van Etten, Beck, The Strokes, and The Foo Fighters.

Danny Paul Grody

Danny Paul Grody is a solo musician and founding member of San Francisco-based bands Tarentel and The Drift. He is a self-taught guitarist, and the melodies at the core of Danny’s songwriting bring to mind his love of West African kora, Takoma-style fingerpicking, and all things minimal and hypnotic. His most recent work is “Arc Of Day” on the Three Lobed label. In addition to his solo work, Grody is a long-term collaborator with Michael Palmieri and Donal Mosher. His distinctive work can be found in The Gospel of Eureka and October Country, which received  “Best Musical Score” from the renowned Cinema Eye Honors in NYC.
