Paper Takes Center Stage: Annual Paper Invitational at Alberta Street Gallery. Immerse yourself in the world of paper art at the Alberta Street Gallery's Annual Paper Invitational. Curated by resident paper artists David Friedman and Kim Nickens, this exhibition showcases the incredible versatility of a familiar material.

David Friedman, a founding member of Portland Open Studios and a highly respected paper cutter for over 12 years, draws inspiration from global traditions. Expect intricate details and surprising narratives in his work, influenced by Chinese, Japanese, German, and Jewish paper-cutting styles. David says, "I create art that sparks thought and emotion — and paper is a surprisingly powerful medium to achieve that."
Kim Nickens, a passionate community advocate, brings her playful spirit to the exhibition. Inspired by the ancient art of Quilling, her work is a burst of color and dimension with a whimsical touch. "We don't often see paper as a serious art material," Kim says. "This show will change that perception."

The opening reception occurs on Thursday, April 25, from 6–9 p.m.
