Amtrak / Union Station

Portland's train station is conveniently located near many mass transit options.

Union Station, with its elegant architecture, 150-foot-tall (45.7-m-tall) clock tower and cheerful “Go By Train” neon sign, is a Portland landmark.

Located at the foot of the Broadway Bridge in Old Town Chinatown, Union Station is just minutes from the center of downtown. The Portland Transit Mall, which carries many bus lines, as well as the MAX light rail Green, Orange and also Yellow lines, is one block from Union Station on Fifth and Sixth Avenues.

The iconic 50-foot clock tower at Union Station welcomes visitors to Portland.

Union Station is served by three Amtrak passenger trains:

  • With four daily departures between Seattle and Portland, as well as daily service to Vancouver, B.C., and two daily trips to Eugene, Ore., Amtrak Cascades is a convenient link to the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia.
  • The Coast Starlight operates daily, connecting the West Coast’s most popular destination cities, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle.
  • Running daily, the Empire Builder begins in Portland and heads east to Chicago, stopping at Whitefish, Glacier National Park, Minot, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, and other locations.

Grab a bite or walk through a park while waiting for a train at Union Station.

  • Jamison Square

    A summertime family favorite, Jamison Square features a large fountain that simulates a shallow tidal pool and the seasonal rhythm of the Willamette River. The park also has an accessible restroom, plaza, statues and public art.

  • Yama Sushi & Sake Bar

    This Pearl District sushi shop serves creative rolls, nigiri, sashimi, small plates, teriyaki, noodles, desserts and an impressive array of sake.

  • Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) + 511 Gallery

    A combination of art and design academy, traditional gallery and alternative exhibition space, the PNCA campus includes a black-box theater, state-of-the-art facilities and rotating exhibitions highlighting 21st century art and students’ work.

  • Allora

    Allora offers Italian-American classics like chicken piccata, cioppino, and spaghetti carbonara from its sleek Pearl District location.

  • Lovejoy Bakers – Pearl

    This neighborhood bakery is known for its bread and desserts. Cafe fare like sandwiches, salads and soups are also available.
