From music to dancing, Portland offers plenty of ways to welcome the New Year.

On the tail end of the holiday season and the beginning of winter in Portland, Portland still knows how to party. From chocolate buffets to spiritual dance parties to champagne balls, Portland offers all sorts of ways to herald the start of the New Year. Champagne Ball

Going strong since 1990, the Champagne Ball has helped nearly 40,000 people ring in the New Year in style. Held at the Portland Art Museum, this “dress to impress” party features “16,000 square feet of good times,” complete with a video countdown, two ballrooms, live bands and DJs, a karaoke lounge, and a buffet.

Sobriety Powwow

The Native American Rehabilitation Association (NARA) has hosted an annual Sobriety Powwow for more than 30 years. The Powwow is one of the largest sobriety New Year celebrations in the country.

New Year’s Eve Concert with the Oregon Symphony

For a night of class and classics make your way to Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall and listen to the Oregon Symphony play Beethoven’s Ninth, with its crowning jewel, the “Ode to Joy” chorus.

New Year’s Eve Cruise

Soak in the city lights while cruising on the river in style on Portland Spirit Cruise’s New Year’s Eve Cruise. Two interior and one exterior deck allow you to twirl your partner around the dance floor. Or take a break from dancing and snack on hors d’oeuvres or sip bubbly while watching the city pass by.

Ring in the New Year at these Portland clubs that will help you dance past midnight.

  • Polaris Hall

    This historic 1920s-era performance and assembly hall was renovated in 2019 with state-of-the-art sound and light to host local, national and international touring acts as well as a sizeable rental space for private events.

  • McMenamins Crystal Ballroom

    See shows of every genre at this historic venue, which boasts vaulted ceilings, grand chandeliers and a famous “floating” dance floor. Downstairs, Lola’s Room hosts smaller shows while Ringlers Pub serves McMenamins ales and pub fare.

  • Wonder Ballroom

    The wooden floors and cozy quarters of this 1914 restored building offer an intimate setting for a variety of artists, ranging from metal and hardcore to indie, pop and beyond.

  • Holocene

    A popular independent music venue, Holocene also hosts Gaycation, one of the city’s longest-standing dance parties.

  • Revolution Hall

    Housed in a former high school built in the 1920s, Revolution Hall hosts live music, stand-up comedy, lectures and more in its renovated auditorium. The site is also home to multiple bars (including one on the roof), a café and rentable event space.
