The following description was submitted by the event organizer.

On July 28, 2019, three pink teeter totters were placed on the border wall of Ciudad Juárez, Mexico and El Paso, Texas, which stands as the most-crossed border in the world and a continual site of political divide. For 45 minutes, these teeter-totters brought children and adults together to a wall that was made to keep them apart. Sube y Baja is a fictional story inspired by these events. It deals with two young children, David and Citlali, from opposite countries, who come together briefly and share the joy, excitement, and heartbreak of riding a simple playground toy.

Sube y Baja was initially commissioned by Artists Repertory Theatre, was a finalist for Portland Civic Theatre Guild’s 2023 New Play Award, and was selected for Desert Island Studio’s 2023 Top Secret Club Reading Series.
