What makes a textile material resilient—and resilient for whom? Join Portland TextileX Month and Portland Athletic & Outdoor for a timely conversation about how material choices shape the performance, durability, environmental impact, circularity, and long-term viability of textile products and systems. Timed in connection with the Functional Fabric Fair, the panel will consider how material research moves from concept to scalable products and where meaningful opportunities for innovation are emerging.

The panel brings together Mac Bishop, founder of Wool&Prince, whose brands explore the performance and longevity of merino wool; Shay Carrillo, founder and chief creative officer of MADRE Linen, whose work engages domestic linen, traceability, and the rebuilding of regional supply chains; and Karen Lee, Senior Manager of Materials Design at Arc’teryx and adjunct faculty in Material + Product Studies at the University of Oregon, whose practice bridges performance material research, product design, and education. Content creator and community builder Kimiko Matsuda will moderate.

Together, the speakers will examine the tradeoffs among performance, durability, environmental responsibility, and circularity, while asking what it takes to translate ambitious material ideas into real-world change. Presented as part of PTXM 2026: Layers of Resilience and hosted at Portland State University’s new Schnitzer School building, the evening will include a moderated discussion, audience questions, and time to continue the conversation.

The event is free, and registration is required.
