World Refugee Day Events and Film Screening
The following description was submitted by the event organizer.
In celebration of World Refugee Day, Shrine13 and Pacific Refugee Support Group (PRSG), in collaboration with PAMCUT and WorldOregon, present the award-winning animated feature documentary, Pour the Water as I Leave. If you missed this Best Feature Documentary-nominated film at Portland Panorama, now is your chance to see this Portland-Made arthouse gem. A portion of ticket sales proceeds will fund a new animation workshop program to benefit refugee and immigrant families in Oregon.
Pour the Water as I Leave is a surreal exploration of the war in Bosnia and the unbreakable spirit of eight of her people whose strength to leave was as powerful as the fight to stay. Blending live action with haunting collage animation and choreographed dance, the film follows two lovers whose connection forms as war descends upon their world.
Before the screening, at 10 a.m., join Portland’s annual Walk for Refugees, hosted by Pacific Refugee Support and partner organizations, starting at Salmon Street Springs on the waterfront. Then, get your tickets for an Animation Masterclass and Film Screening. At 1:30 p.m., come to the Portland Art Museum’s Finley Studio for a Masterclass Animation Workshop with award-winning filmmaker and animator Daniela Repas. The film will start at 3:00 p.m.
The film screening event is made possible by a grant from Multnomah County Cultural Coalition, Oregon Cultural Trust, and RACC.
