Concert organist Dr. Nathaniel Gumbs, director of music at New York’s storied Riverside Church, presents a thrilling organ recital for Trinity Cathedral’s Catherine Crozier Memorial Organ Recital. Dr. Gumbs’ program features several beloved treasures of the organ repertoire by Charles-Marie Widor, Sigfried Karg-Elert, Felix Mendelssohn, and César Franck, plus American composer Florence Price’s monumental First Sonata for Organ.

Dr. Gumbs has served in multiple large parishes and churches and, until his recent move to New York City, served as Director of Chapel Music at Yale University. He maintains an active career as a concert organist with engagements across the country; The New York Times praised his playing as “mature, lyrical, accurate, and energetic,” noting that his performance was delivered “deftly and with feeling.” Recently, he released his first organ solo project entitled King of Kings: Organ Music of Black Composers, Past and Present.

Dr. Gumbs’ program is one of true excitement and versatility, allowing both his innate energy and prodigious technique to shine, and Trinity’s landmark Rosales pipe organ could not be better suited for such a beautiful program.
