The following description was submitted by the event organizer.

Are your nerves absolutely frazzled by (*waves hands*) everything going on in the world? You’re not alone, and the good news is Church of Art has a few calming, creative activities that will draw you into a serene “flow state.” If you’re not familiar with it, “flow state” is complete immersion in an activity to the point where your brain chatter disappears, you lose any sense of time passing, and you feel truly relaxed and joyful.

In today’s technology-driven world, knowing how to enter flow state is a gift to yourself that you can return to anytime you’d like.

In this workshop, artist and Church of Art founder Erika Halperin will introduce a quiet and engaging mark-making activity known to induce flow state. Then, with tranquil music playing, you will spend 60-70 minutes immersed in focused mark-making while the outside world falls completely away. Then take a short break before embarking on a second, different flow-inducing art activity for another 60-70 minutes that will once again feel like no time at all.

Your artwork is yours to take home and — more importantly — that frazzled feeling will have melted away.

The workshop uses graphite and colored pencils, fine liner pens, and watercolors, along with mixed media paper.

  • 3 hours of art-making in a supportive, welcoming environment
  • All materials and supplies included
  • Light snacks and non-alcoholic beverages
  • New mark-making activities to enter the flow state whenever you need
  • That wonderful feeling of joy and connectedness that comes from a few hours of creative, artistic play with other adults.
