The following description was submitted by the event organizer.

The Church of Art offers unstructured creative time in the studio in 2-hour blocks, known as “Art Fellowship Hours,” which is a cheeky way of saying “independent creative play time.” These are 2-hour blocks of studio time for you to visit the Church of Art studio (on your own or with a friend) to paint, draw, collage, browse our collection of art books with a cup of hot tea, or simply hang out and chat in a warm, inviting space.

For $30, you get up to 2 hours of creative play time that includes the use of the studio’s paintbrushes, texture tools, collection of still life objects–basically anything that is non-consumable. Just bring your own paints, markers, etc. and paper or canvas (the consumable supplies).

Add $10 to use the studio’s consumable supplies and bring just your paper or canvas. (With this add-on, you may add art to the Community Sketchbooks, which live in the studio, for everyone to enjoy.)

Includes:

  • 2 hours of mark making in a supportive, friendly environment (No need to consider yourself an artist)
  • Access to a beautiful array of high-quality art media (no need to bring anything except your sketchbook)
  • Color and materials to help spark your creativity
  • Light snacks and NA beverages
  • The possibility of meeting new friends
  • Time away from your phone, making something with your hands
  • That wonderful feeling of joy and connectedness that comes from making art in a supportive, engaging environment

Think of Church of Art as your new favorite hangout, a place to make new friends, and a space to unleash your creative side. An art-centered approach to community building offering affordable, low-pressure art workshops in NW Portland for adults who want to play with art supplies alongside other adults, in person, with snacks. No need to “be an artist”-just come as you are, make some art, and walk away with that sweet feeling of personal connection.
