Twenty years ago, a bunch of teenagers from Salem, Oregon, played a show at the Clinton Street Theater in Southeast Portland. They were all between the ages of sixteen and nineteen, unkempt and dressed in plaids and earth-tones. The songs were murder ballads, Gregorian chants, and sea shanties. One song featured the repeated dropping of a giant nautical chain. Afterward, more than one audience member commented that the whole thing reminded them of Lord of the Flies.

Back then, the band was known for having a lot of people in it and for being very young. Now? The band still has a lot of people in it.

In January, Typhoon will be celebrating its twentieth birthday, and you’re invited. Join two nights of music, merrymaking and many happy returns. The whole gang will be there and each night will play a unique set from the extended typhoon discography (including songs never played live before). Best of all, they’ll be joined for the occasion by some of their nearest and dearest buds.
