Beauty of Imperfection

In this special workshop for youths ages 13+, explore what happens when you’re part of something bigger than your own individual brushstroke/. In this 3-hour workshop, artist Erika Halperin will guide attendees through a creative experiment in collective art-making, where participants have no control over the outcome yet leave with a piece of unexpectedly beautiful art. Attendees will let go of perfection and expectation to instead embrace the magic of creative collaboration. Each person moves from one canvas to the next, layering colorful marks and paints in response to abstracted verbal prompts. By the end, everyone will have made marks on every piece. Each piece is then cut into strips and randomly reassembled into colorful concertina books. No artistic experience needed.

Youth 13+ are welcome to register solo or with a parent/guardian attendee.
Using watercolor, gouache, charcoal, acrylic markers, colored pencils, chalk pastels, and graphite.
