The following description was submitted by the event organizer.

If We Could Talk is a photography and storytelling project that blends history, race and place. Many of the featured artists are members of North Portland’s displaced Black community who have reclaimed their roots in the neighborhood. Through 35mm black-and-white film and reflective writing, participants explored what home means when neighborhoods change. Informed by the history of gentrification and resilience in North and Northeast Portland, this project reflects on loss and belonging, honoring a community’s deep ties to place while affirming that home is not lost. It lives on in the people who remember, rebuild and remain.

Join on opening night from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. on December 12, where you can enjoy artist talks and light refreshments.

The exhibit runs through Feb. 16. After opening night, it will be viewable by appointment only. The BLACK Gallery offers appointments between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Thursday through Sunday. Student groups are encouraged. Email info@theblackgallerypdx.com to schedule a visit.

Admission: Free and open to the public
