Map and Compass Orienteering: Staying Found
The following description was submitted by the event organizer.
It’s easy to get around these days with map apps, but what happens when you don’t have a signal or your phone battery dies? Join Greg Hill at Hoyt Arboretum to learn the basics of land navigation using a map, a compass, and environmental cues.
In the classroom, you will go over simple compass operations, including finding a bearing, following a bearing, and orienting a map. Then head out to the Arboretum to practice your new orienteering skills in the field.
Class size is limited; please register in advance
Registration closes Saturday, October 18, at 10:00 a.m.
Bring your own orienteering compass (clear-backed), or select the ticket option that includes the purchase of a new compass
