L’Inferno (1911) Score by Lori Goldston and Corey J Brewer
The following description was submitted by the event organizer.
Experience L’Inferno (1911) with an original live score by Lori Goldston and Corey J Brewer–a visionary landmark film that shaped the language of cinema from DeMille to Lynch. Acclaimed cellist and composer Goldston — who toured with Nirvana, appears on their MTV Unplugged album, and has collaborated with David Byrne, Cat Power, Terry Riley, Lynn Shelton, and many more — joins forces with musician and filmmaker Brewer, whose score for The Shining Forwards and Backwards helped launch the Tomorrow Theater in 2023. Together, they reimagine Italy’s first feature film in a spellbinding performance that is not to be missed.
Italy’s first feature film, L’Inferno (1911), chronicles Dante’s travel through the Circles of Hell, guided by the poet Virgil. A triumph of special effects and camera trickery that still has the power to confront and delight audiences
ON STAGE: Lori Goldston and Corey J Brewe
Classically trained and rigorously de-trained, possessor of a restless, semi-feral spirit, Lori Goldston is a cellist, composer, improvisor, producer, writer, and teacher from Seattle. Her voice as a cellist, amplified or acoustic, is full, textured, committed, and original. A relentless inquirer, her work drifts freely across borders that separate genre, discipline, time, and geography.
Corey J. Brewer is a musician and visual artist living in Seattle. He has written music for several short films and composed the score for the upcoming feature films By The Roots and Our Forbidden Country. He has also written and performed new/alternate live scores for The Shining Forwards & Backwards, The Velvet Vampire, and The Cat and the Canary (1927).
