Celebrate the life and legacy of comedy icon John Candy with the Portland launch of John Candy: A Life in Comedy, the definitive new biography from bestselling author Paul Myers. Drawing on extensive research and interviews with Candy’s closest collaborators — including Dan Aykroyd, Catherine O’Hara, Martin Short, Steve Martin, and more — Myers paints a warm, funny, and deeply human portrait of one of comedy’s most beloved stars.

Following a conversation, there will be a screening of John Hughes’ holiday classic Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987), starring Candy alongside Steve Martin. A rare chance to honor Candy’s enduring brilliance both on the page and on the big screen.

Friends at Literary Arts will be on-site selling copies of the book.
