Sing Along Messiah
The following description was submitted by the event organizer.
Skip Twietmeyer, of Twietmeyer Realty, wanted to sponsor a Sing-Along Messiah as a thank you to the Portland community for his successes as a realtor. He arranged for it to be held at his church, Central Lutheran, in December 1993. He and his company continued to sponsor the event annually until his retirement. Then the pandemic hit, and Central Lutheran Church’s facility was put on the market by its congregation. Skip passed in January of 2022. The family could not make the Sing Along continue thereafter. For those whose Christmas celebration was just not the same without the Sing Along, this was heartbreaking.
In the Fall of 2024, a member of Blueprint Arts Choir (who had attended all but the first Sing Along) contacted Central Lutheran about the status of the scores that had been loaned out at the events, hoping to restart the tradition under the auspices of Blueprint Arts. The Twietmeyer children gave their blessing and donated the scores to Blueprint Arts, along with a generous donation to ensure the event would be free to the community. Last year’s event was in honor of Skip and his wife, Elaine, who gave so generously to the community with the Sing Along. Blueprint will continue this annually, with the ongoing support of the Twietmeyer family. Sing Along of Handel’s Messiah, with conductor and organist, singing all choruses, solos being read. Loaner scores will be available, but bring your own if you have one.
Parking is available at the church lot on Hancock or in the surrounding neighborhood. Handicap access is at 16th and NE Schuyler.
Free, but donations appreciated
