The following description was submitted by the event organizer.

This art show, featuring a new body of work by UK-based artist LittleSwimminMachine (aka Francesca Loi), was originally inspired by the artist’s fascination with the concept of Pareidolia: the human tendency to perceive faces in nature’s random patterns (even when none actually exist). Such a fascination led her to explore the anthropomorphic—the attribution of human form and character to non-human entities—with the ultimate goal of blurring the boundary between reality and imagination.

Loi has once again chosen to work with multiple materials, blending diverse textures, styles, and human features to merge the “typical” with the strange. In doing this, she hopes to conjure up stirrings of unease.

On November 8, there will be an opening reception between 5 and 7 p.m.

Francesca Loi (LittleSwimminMachine) is a London-based doll maker passionate about upcycling and the beauty of imperfections in vintage textiles and found artefacts. She creates one-of-a-kind mixed-media art dolls that are highly prized among art doll collectors worldwide.
