The following description was submitted by the event organizer.

Welcome to the SUMMER OF ’99, before smartphones, social media, and streaming. Pre-doom scroll, bed rot, and AI ubiquity. 1999 wasn’t just another year—it was THE year. The one that redefined cinema. It was a launching pad for today’s biggest filmmakers, a breakout year for indie film, and a cultural turning point that echoes today. To celebrate, Tomorrow Theater is screening the iconic documentary American Movie.

ON SCREEN: American Movie

1999. Directed by Chris Smith. Runtime: 1 hour 47 minutes. Rated R.

American Movie is the story of filmmaker Mark Borchardt, his mission, and his dream. Spanning over two years of intense struggle with his film, his family, financial decline, and spiritual crisis, American Movie is a portrayal of ambition, obsession, excess, and one man’s quest for the American Dream.
