The Female Gaze
The following description was submitted by the event organizer.
NYC pianist Kathleen Supove and PDX pianist Jennifer Wright join forces in a tour-de-force concert that soundtracks the current moment through an unabashedly feminist lens.
Music by Jennifer Wright, Bonnie Miksch, Randy Woolf, Kathleen Supove, Jerome Kitzke, and Beata Moon is, at turns, dramatic, humorous, gorgeous, scathingly satirical, and spiritual. It takes the audience on an unflinching rollercoaster ride. You’ll hear works for piano, voice, harpsichord, toy pianos, cello, symphonic gong, and shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute). Joining Supove and Wright will be Diane Chaplin on cello, Larry Tyrrell on shakuhachi, and Bonnie Miksch on voice and symphonic gong on the world premiere performance of her newest piece, “The Revolution From Within”.
Don’t miss two world premieres from Jennifer Wright, “Chatter” for piano and wind-up teeth toys, and “The Mad Libber’s Tea Party”, an Alice in Wonderland-inspired romp about the current administration’s list of banned woke words. You’ll laugh, you’ll sigh, you’ll cringe, you might cry – and you’ll definitely leave with a renewed appreciation for the resilience, heart, and humor of the *other* 49.6% of the human population.
Please note: since two of the pieces involve some adult language and concepts, there will be two “Snack Breaks” at those times in a separate area in Michelle’s Pianos showroom for audience members under 13. The rest of the show is family-friendly.
