Portland Horror Film Festival
The Portland Horror Film Festival showcases independent, innovative, international horror films. Brought to you by the producers of Zompire and the HPLFF.
Portland Horror Film Festival is the first dedicated all-horror genre film festival in Portland. Festival directors Gwen and Brian Callahan are also the directors of the popular H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival (founded initially by Andrew Migliore, the HPLFF has been a Portland institution for over 20 years), and also organized Zompire: The Undead Film Festival from 2012-2014. After noting an increase in high-quality film submissions that didn’t quite fit the narrow Lovecraftian or Weird Tale format, they created PHFF out of a desire to showcase independent horror films from all sub-genres. With annual screenings featuring regional and world premieres, visiting Filmmaker Q&A sessions, and the best audience in the world, Portland Horror Film Festival is a vibrant outpost of independent horror in the Pacific Northwest.
Portland Horror Film Festival takes place at the beautifully restored Hollywood Theatre, a prohibition-era movie palace built in 1926. We’re told the theater has its own share of haunts, so don’t be surprised if something taps you on the shoulder while you’re enjoying a film, or see something flitter backstage when the lights go down. This year, our weekend showings are at The Clinton Street Theater, one of Portland’s oldest community theaters, and home to the longest continuously running Rocky Horror Picture Show in the country.
