The following description was submitted by the event organizer.

Join the OSU Portland Center for an evening with New York-based artist and scholar Leah DeVun. She'll share "LGBTQ+ Pasts and Futures," a talk about her photo series Resemblance and about how her scholarship shapes her creative practice.

Resemblance depicts her partner, a transgender father, and their son. In defiance of anti-LGBTQ+ stereotypes about children’s safety with queer adults, this series documents DeVun’s family to show the real people who are affected by the legislative assault on LGBTQ+ rights. These intimate photos ask you to rethink masculinity and vulnerability, as well as what makes a family.

Leah DeVun is the author of the prize-winning book The Shape of Sex: Nonbinary Gender from Genesis to the Renaissance and Professor of History at Rutgers University. This talk is sponsored by OSU's Center for the Humanities.

Resemblance will be on display at Blue Sky Gallery in Portland May 1–31, 2025.
