Bing in the New Year
The following description was submitted by the event organizer.
Bing in the New Year is a free, family-friendly, outdoor New Year's Eve event with live music, Chinese cultural performances, vendors, a beer and mead garden, and an "East Coast Midnight" lowering of a 7-foot-tall, lighted Bing cherry sculpture, by crane, at 9 p.m. in downtown Milwaukie (just minutes from Portland and accessible by TriMet.)
Bing in the New Year celebrates Ah Bing, the Chinese horticulturist who, while working at Seth Lewelling's orchards in Milwaukie in the 1880s, first cultivated the Bing cherry.
