The following description was submitted by the event organizer.

Ushering in the summer solstice, the “Everything Under the Sun” parade will be led by a giant paper mache sun puppet and will feature puppets, costumes, and a community ukulele group. The parade is supported by the Sellwood-Moreland Neighborhood Association (SMILE) and it draws inspiration from public processions like Bread and Puppet in Vermont and Heart of the Beast Puppet Theatre in Minneapolis. Anyone can join this neighborhood parade and organizers hope that community members will connect with their friends and neighbors to create what they are calling “walking floats.” These “walking floats” are small groups of people who pick a theme, dress up, make signs or puppets, blow bubbles, play music, or ride bikes. Pretty much, anything “under the sun.”

The parade will start at the north end of Sellwood Park and parade through the neighborhood.

Organizers will be offering public puppet building workshops with reused materials at the Sellwood Farmer’s Market on May 25 10a-2p and at the SMILE station on June 8th 1-4p.
