Girls Inc. of the Pacific Northwest is hosting its annual International Day of the Girl celebration with an in-person luncheon. The 2023 International Day of the Girl luncheon theme is “Digital generation. Our generation,” providing a platform for the global community to better understand girls' online disadvantages. 100% of proceeds will go towards serving over 1,500 youth during the 2023-2024 school year in 35 schools, 15 community sites and six districts across Portland, Seattle and Southwest Washington.

The keynote speaker of the International Day of the Girl luncheon is General Manager of the Portland Thorns, Karina LeBlanc. Karina is a retired Olympic bronze medalist, professional athlete and one of the longest-serving soccer players in Canadian national team history. With a prestigious career that spanned almost 18 years at the international level, she participated in five FIFA World Cups and two Olympic Games, winning an Olympic medal in London 2012. Since retiring as a player in 2015, Karina has been named UNICEF Ambassador, a FIFA Legend and founded the Karina LeBlanc Foundation. This charity empowers young women to find their inner greatness and purpose.

Girls Inc. is celebrating 25 years of inspiring all girls to be strong, smart and bold. In partnership with schools throughout Portland, Seattle and SW Washington, Girls Inc. focuses on holistic youth development. Participants learn to value their whole selves, discover and develop their inherent strengths, and receive the support they need to navigate their challenges. The combination of long-lasting mentoring relationships, a pro-girl inclusive environment, and research-based programming equips young people to navigate gender, economic, and social barriers and grow up healthy, educated, and independent. Informed by youth and their families, we also advocate for legislation and policies to increase opportunities and rights for all girls.
