The following description was submitted by the event organizer.

Big Mouth Society presents an evocative fusion of music, storytelling, and exploration, culminating in an intergenerational dance party. Hosted by Big Mouth’s very own drag sensation Betty Poops, with support from Artistic Director Emily Lau, Queer & Dear weaves together rich choral harmonies, instrumental melodies, spirited drag artistry, and the diverse creativity of our queer collaborators.

Queer & Dear: Echoes of Queerness through Song and Sequins beckons attendees into a sonic tapestry like no other. Drawing on profound insights from LGBTQIA+ predecessors, proudly spotlighting the poignant works of historic queer composers and the innovative brilliance of contemporary queer voices. Along with commissioned works by local composers Drew Swatosh and Jesse Ehrenberg, there will be music by Samuel Barber, Melissa Dunphy, Joshua Shenk, Given, Dolly Parton, Bryce Caster, Craig Hella Johnson, and Pauline Oliveros. More than a mere concert, this gathering offers a deep dive into the narratives and inspirations shaping the queer community. It’s a celebration designed for all, regardless of age or background, and you are invited to immerse yourself in the stories and feelings that connect, move, and shape us.

Big Mouth Society works to ensure open access to the arts and supports equitable treatment of artists. Ticket price is sliding scale, and it is suggested to contribute the equivalent of an hourly wage per ticket purchased. Project funding is generously provided by Portland Events and Film, with additional support from Portland Center Stage’s Education and Community Programs, New Music USA and Big Mouth Society.

Portland Events and Film is proud to support events that celebrate the city, build community, and represent the diversity of Portland’s creative talent, businesses, and communities.
