The following description was submitted by the event organizer.

Join FUSEE Naturalist Rudy Dietz on an easy two-mile hike through Forest Park to learn how essential managing fire is to protecting communities and sustaining forest ecosystems. Learn how to identify common native plants: edible, non-edible, and medicinal.

Spring is the ideal time to get outside and get to know our highly diverse local plant life, which depends on fire to create diverse healthy habitats.  If you’ve been wanting to know more about the increased wildfire activity in recent years, what is driving it, how our forests depend on it, and how we can live safely and sustainably with fire in our forests but not in our homes, then please join.

FUSEE (Firefighters United for Safety, Ethics, and Ecology) promotes safe, ethical, ecological fire management through public education, policy advocacy, and media outreach.
