Dongzhi: A Chinese Holiday Party
The following description was submitted by the event organizer.
Dongzhi (冬至) means winter is coming. It means "the peak of winter," so Dongzhi marks winter solstice — the shortest day of the year. An important traditional festival in China, Dongzhi dates back to the Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD). Festival activities include worshiping heaven, the earth, and ancestors, counting nines, eating traditional winter solstice foods, and wishing for a great harvest and good fortune in the coming year. In modern times, the Dongzhi Festival is a time for a family reunion and reunion dinner. Celebrate warmth, family, and prosperity with a unique cultural twist.
Join Lan Su for Dongzhi: A Chinese Holiday Party, where tradition meets innovation. Celebrate the Winter Solstice by rolling tang yuan (湯圓), a classic Dongzhi rice-ball dessert soup, sharing wishes for peace and prosperity, and exploring interactive AR displays that take you on a journey through the stories of Chinese Americans in Portland in partnership with CETI.
