Florida's flipturn deal in a hook-heavy indie rock that's lush, driving, and passionate. Following a series of studio EPs recorded while building a fan base with their live shows in the latter half of the 2010s, they made their full-length debut with Shadowglow in 2022. A handful of appearances at marquee U.S. festivals preceded the arrival of the follow-up, 2024's Burnout Days.
Named for a swimming maneuver, flipturn was founded by teenagers Dillon Basse (lead vocals/rhythm guitar), Tristan Duncan (lead guitar), and Madeline Jarman (bass) in Fernandina Beach, Florida, in 2015. They self-released their first EP, Heavy Colors, in 2017, following it a year later with Citrona. They were headlining national tours by the time they released their third EP, 2020's Something You Needed, with drummer Adrian Walker.
