The Portland Youth Philharmonic (PYP) opens its exciting 96th season in the Schnitzer with George Gershwin‘s expressive, jazz inspired Piano Concerto, performed by 14–year-old Joshua Ji, winner of the 2019 Portland Piano International/SOLO Piano Concerto Competition. The fall opener also features Amy Beach’s Gaelic Symphony (1894 – the first work to be composed and published by an American woman composer). The concert will conclude with a performance of the pulsating Batuque by Brazilian composer Oscar Lorenzo Fernández.
Conducted by David Hattner, PYP’s Musical Director.
Presented by Portland Youth Philharmonic.
