The following description was submitted by the event organizer.

Sally Wen Mao, Ladan Osman, Paisley Rekdal and Dao Strom.

From internationally famous Chinese American movie star to Adam and Eve, the characters in these three poetry collections confront different kinds of displacement: from the body, from home, from time. In Oculus, Sally Wen Mao explores exile not just as a matter of distance and displacement, but as a migration through time and a reckoning with technology. Ladan Osman’s Exiles of Eden looks at the Biblical origin story of Adam and Eve and exile from the Garden of Eden, exploring displacement and alienation from its mythological origins to the present. Nightingale, by Utah poet laureate Paisley Rekdal, radically rewrites and contemporizes many of the myths central to Ovid’s epic, The Metamorphoses. With moderator Dao Strom (The Gentle Order of Girls and Boys).

Presented by Literary Arts' Portland Book Festival.
