A little old-fashioned competition never hurt anyone, right? Portland hosts a multitude of exciting sports teams and events, including NBA basketball, pre-NHL hockey, minor league baseball and A-League soccer.
The ultra-modern Rose Garden arena is home to the NBA's Portland Trail Blazers and the Portland LumberJax professional indoor lacrosse team, as well as countless concerts and special events. The Portland Winter Hawks hockey team plays at the Memorial Coliseum, which is located next door to the arena.
Visitors can also cheer alongside Portlands loyal and enthusiastic sports fans at historic PGE Park, whose recent renovation added state-of-the-art amenities without sacrificing the stadiums elegant 1926 design. PGE Park is home to Triple-A baseballs Portland Beavers, an affiliate of the San Diego Padres. The A-League Portland Timbers soccer games are also played here.
Speed is the name of the game for fans at Portland International Raceway; the track's season is highlighted by G.I. Joe's Presents Champ Car Grand Prix of Portland, the largest auto racing event in the Pacific Northwest. And if you're feeling lucky, place your bets at Portland Meadows, a horse-racing track.
