How does the MAX Light Rail work? Is it easy to use?

MAX Light Rail is at the heart of Portland’s award-winning public transportation system, which connects Portland International Airport (PDX), the Oregon Convention Center (OCC) and downtown hotels. It’s easy, inexpensive and convenient. Here are some quick facts:
  • Trip times are as follows: PDX to downtown Portland: 38–43 minutes. PDX to OCC: 30–33 minutes. OCC to downtown Portland: 10–13 minutes.
  • An adult ticket good for 2.5 hours costs $2.80.
  • You can roll your luggage on board the MAX Red Line, which serves the airport.
  • MAX trains run about every 15 minutes most of the day, every day. Service is less frequent in the early morning, midday and evening. Trains run from approximately 5 a.m. through midnight.

What is there to do right around the convention center?

The OCC is located in the Lloyd District, which is experiencing vigorous growth and exciting new developments; you’ll find plentiful activity, entertainment and shopping options, or savor a delicious dish within minutes of the convention center. The Moda Center and Veterans Memorial Coliseum are minutes away as well, offering frequent sports, live music and other events to choose from. The Lloyd District is surrounded by vibrant neighborhoods like Mississippi, which are only a short distance away via transit.
