Beginning June 1, 2020, British Airways will launch year-round, nonstop service five days per week from London Heathrow to Portland International Airport (PDX). With this new service, Portland becomes the 27th city in the U.S. to offer direct flights from London through British Airways. Flights will run Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, allowing for greater flexibility for connections to and from Europe and other destinations throughout the U.K. British Airways joins current nonstop seasonal service from London Heathrow on Delta Air Lines.
“Portland’s world-class food and beverage offerings, vibrant maker culture and access to outdoor adventure make our region a great destination for U.K. travelers,” says Jeff Miller, Travel Portland’s President and CEO. “This first-ever year-round nonstop service from London Heathrow on British Airways will make it easy to get to Portland all year long.”
According to Billie Moser, Travel Portland’s Vice President of International Tourism, the UK is Portland’s top European market and of great importance to the city’s tourism economy, experiencing a 25% growth in the last five years.
“This first year-round air service from London Heathrow, in addition to Portland’s current London service, is very exciting,” Moser says. “As British Airways is the UK’s home carrier, this service will drive additional inbound business — and with our UK representation firm Black Diamond in London in place for three years, Travel Portland’s international tourism team will continue to activate consumer demand.”
