Portland’s oldest neighborhood is home to historic restaurants, contemporary eateries and one of the world’s most famous doughnut shops.
In the pedestrian-only Ankeny Alley, you’ll find Dan & Louis’ Oyster Bar, an Old Town landmark opened in 1907 and packed with history.
Historic, brick-lined Old Town Pizza has served up some of Portland’s most craved pizza since 1974. Housed in the former Merchant Hotel, built in 1880, the building is said to have a resident ghost, Nina. Perfect for a meal before or after a trip to Lan Su Chinese Garden.
One of Chinatown’s relatively few Chinese restaurants is Chen’s Good Taste Restaurant, a small Cantonese eatery located near the Chinatown Gateway and renowned for noodles and barbecued pork. Red Robe Tea House is a relatively recent addition to the Chinatown neighborhood (it opened in 2011), but the experience is classic, with a huge array of teas and comforting bowls of noodles and dumplings — make sure to try to barbecue pork.
The cooks at Bijou Café whip up irresistible breakfast fare that emphasizes local, organic ingredients. Don’t miss the Netarts Bay oyster hash and killer brioche French toast. In the same block, Stumptown Coffee has your sustainably sourced, locally roasted caffeine fix at the ready.
