Know Before You Go
Editor’s Note: Check back in November 2020 for information about this year’s holiday season. If you’re interested in learning how to participate in future programs like PDX Pop-Up Shops, contact Lisa Frisch at email@example.com.
For finding holiday gifts as usual, head to a big box store. For shoppers on the hunt for something out of the ordinary, however, PDX Pop-Up Shops in Pioneer Place was a perfect solution.
In 2019, featured brand Alshiref and Friends paid special holiday homage to the Rose City’s 12 bridges, selling posters of the St. Johns Bridge, Tilikum Crossing and Marquam Bridge (which were also printed on tote bags, pillow cases and shirts).
PDX Pop-Up Shops was a temporary program that took over unused storefront space, inviting in small businesses and locally based artisans to sell their homemade goods. Inside, shoppers discovered curated gifts made by more than 20 local designers and crafters. With products ranging from tea towels and handcrafted earrings to wooden wall signs and blown glass, shoppers were pretty much guaranteed to take home a uniquely Portland find.
PDX Pop-Up Shops had its final year in 2019. For a decade, this tradition helped small, local businesses find new customers and assisted in Downtown Portland’s economic revitalization. We’ll have to wait until the 2020 holiday season to see the newest project on tap. (We’ve heard whispers it will continue to provide space for Portland-based designers and artists with a renewed focus on diverse entrepreneurs.)
