Spiral Dance Living Prayer Wheel
The following description was submitted by the event organizer.
Join in dancing Japanese Bön dances in a circle to create a living prayer wheel dedicated to the happiness and joy of all beings.
Participation encouraged. Bön dances are Japanese folk dances done in a circle. Each dance has a few repeating moves and is easy to learn, so you can follow along. Inspired by Tibetan Buddhist prayer wheels, and will transform the circle dance into a living prayer wheel by wearing screen-printed ponchos covered with the Mantra “OM MANI PADME HUM,” which is a praise of compassion and wisdom, and a wish for the happiness of all beings.
Mihoko moved to Portland from Japan and is passionate about sharing Bön dance. Bön dance is part of Japanese contemporary folk and counterculture alongside sustainable food practices and the anti-war movement.
