Critically acclaimed poet and songwriter Larry Beckett comes to celebrate the release of his fifth album, Though We Have Only Love: The Songs of Jacques Brel—a powerful tribute to the iconic Belgian singer and actor. On the album, Beckett reimagines 14 of Brel’s classic 1950s and ’60s chansons in a contemporary alt-rock style, honoring their original melodies and harmonies while infusing them with fresh urgency.
The recording features Beckett on vocals, spoken word, and piano alongside longtime collaborator Stuart Anthony (vocals, guitar), with Mike Hodgkins (drums), Matt Canty (bass), and James Edge (piano, keys, flute). Together, they bring renewed depth and modern energy to Brel’s timeless songs.
For this performance, Beckett is joined by Australian violinist and recording artist Mirabai Peart, who together present selections from the album that range from driving rock anthems to intimate spoken-word pieces.
