In Clay
The following description was submitted by the event organizer.
Inspired by true events, In Clay shines a light on the overlooked brilliance of French ceramic artist Marie-Berthe Cazin. Set in early 20th-century France, this intimate and poetic story unfolds in Marie’s quaint Parisian apartment as she opens crates of her own work—mistakenly credited to her late husband—exploring the tension between legacy and self-expression, tradition and transformation. Each object reveals memories, long-buried ambitions, and an artistic fire she never let die. The timely arrival of her estranged childhood friend and now celebrated artist Henrietta Tirman forces Marie to confront the complicated past. As she challenges a world that denied her rightful place, In Clay invites audiences to rediscover a life shaped by passion, resilience, and a quiet longing to be seen.
