The following description was submitted by the event organizer.

1990 was 35 years ago. A year that continued to see a three-way standoff between the emerging alternative rock scene, next-generation hip hop, and old-fashioned ’80s arena pop, even as the no-rules ’90s assumed control over MTV. Complete with year-specific ads and trailers, Tomorrow Theater features the best music videos from three decades past. From Mazzy Star to MC Hammer, Sinead O’Connor to Sonic Youth, and everything in between, you just can’t touch this.

ON STAGE: ReRun Theater

Since December 2011, ReRun Theater has been taking the small screen to the big screen. The TV Party as Cinema. Movie theaters generally have the noble task of presenting feature-length motion pictures, current and repertoire, as they were meant to be seen: on the big screen. They take shows originally intended for home viewing and present them bigger and louder than they’ve ever been shown before. Their primary goal is to exhibit classic, rare, or oddball television, complete with commercial interruptions. You are actually transported back in time to an era and a mindset. Some of it is quite bizarre, particularly when considering that this was all designed and approved for broadcast on network television, reaching American (and sometimes British) homes. Their “Year in Videos” sub-series is specifically a presentation of music videos that were in heavy rotation during a given year decades past (either on MTV, Night Flight or some other video show or channel). Series programmed by The Phantom Hillbilly

Note: Tomorrow Theater does not generally provide advisories about subject matter or potentially triggering content in films, and films exhibited don’t necessarily reflect the views of PAM CUT, the Tomorrow Theater, or the Portland Art Museum. In addition to the synopses, trailers and other links on the website, further information about content and age-appropriateness for specific films can be found on sites like Common Sense Media, IMDb and DoesTheDogDie.com.
