This collaborative exhibit, featuring Dustin Pattison, Human Access Project, and The Jupiter Hotel, shines a light on the dynamic evolution of Portland’s relationship with the Willamette River. The Opening Reception will be casual, energetic, and community-focused. An opportunity to drop in, view Pattison’s work, and connect with the people shaping Portland’s growing river culture. There will also be a wood-fired sauna/dunk tank and music by DJ Carlos and PopCart PDX as part of the fun under the Jupiter Hotel’s large outdoor tent. Admission is free and open to the public. Guests are encouraged to RSVP to help organizers plan accordingly. River attire encouraged.

Over the past two years, Pattison has documented the resurgence of a joyful, people-centered culture along Portland’s Willamette River Waterfront, capturing a movement of recreation, river-edge accessibility, and community connection that has not been seen in the city for over a century. The exhibit highlights the growing momentum around river access and activation made possible through the work of organizations, including Human Access Project and Lloyd EcoDistrict, whose efforts have expanded opportunities for swimming, gathering, and public engagement at the water’s edge.

Opening Reception: Saturday, November 22, 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. — The exhibition will debut with a one-of-a-kind reception at The Jupiter Hotel. Guests are encouraged to fully embrace the theme by arriving in swimwear, bathrobes, or their preferred attire for a day at the river, a playful nod to Portland’s beloved summertime river culture. This free evening event will feature:

  • A wood-fired sauna and dunk tank
  • Music by Popcart PDX
  • Photo exhibit in The Dream Tent and Studio at The Jupiter Hotel

This free celebratory event promises a uniquely Portland blend of art, community, and river-inspired creativity.
