The Thanksgiving Play
The following description was submitted by the event organizer.
Four well-meaning theater people are tasked with creating a Thanksgiving pageant for children that won’t ruffle any feathers. What could possibly go wrong? Playwright and MacArthur Fellow Larissa FastHorse (the first known female Indigenous playwright on Broadway) guides a farcical roast of the politics of entertainment and political correctness alike. The Thanksgiving Play, which premiered in Portland at Artists Repertory Theater in 2018, targets the American origin story itself with comedic crosshairs.
The Thanksgiving Play is directed by Phillip Ray Guevara, a Portland theater artist and adjunct professor at UP.
A reminder that all Indigenous and Native people receive free tickets to UP Theater shows. Just email boxoffice@up.edu to set up your reservation.
